Since the restoration at the end of the 19th century, Kasteel de Haar (De Haar Castle) has always been occupied for one month a year, in September. The Van Zuylen van Nijevelt van de Haar family fly in from all corners of the globe to enjoy, together with their international guests, this quite spectacular summer residence.

The combination of its mediaeval feel with "technical novelties", which was unheard of at the turn of the century, is what makes De Haar so unique. The collection of art treasures that baron Etienne and baroness Hélène brought home from all over the World and the vast landscaped park and its gardens complete the dream of baron Etienne. You will understand why the family so love to stay here.

Naturally, extensive preparations are called for if the castle is to offer a wonderful care-free month to its guests. Your guide will tell you all about the work that goes on months in advance. As September approaches new life is breathed into the castle. You will hear how Baron Etienne and baroness Hélène spent their months here and how their grandson, Thierry, carried on this tradition in the seventies, playing host to celebrities such as Brigitte Bardot and Roger Moore. You will also visit the rooms where the staff spend their days as well as the sumptuous halls were dinners and parties are held. And of course, there’ll be time to have a good look at the baron and baroness’s private sleeping quarters.
