Normally, the Chapel at De Haar Castle remains closed to visitors. However, from Monday, November 2, through Friday, November 27, you’ll have the special opportunity to admire the interior of this historic site on weekdays.
Step inside and discover a place steeped in history, remarkable stories, and memories of the Van Zuylen family.
A chapel with a remarkable history
The Chapel has a long history. When De Haar Castle was still in ruins, the Chapel stood in the center of the old village of Haarzuilens. At the time, the building was so dilapidated that it was even used as a pigsty.
During the impressive reconstruction of De Haar Castle, the Chapel was also given a new lease on life. Just like the castle, the building was carefully rebuilt and furnished as a place to commemorate the ancestors of Baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt. If you look closely, you’ll discover various references to the family’s history in the interior.
Even today, the Chapel plays a special role. It is the final resting place for several family members and also serves as an atmospheric venue where couples exchange wedding vows.
Plan your visit
